Family Express

I don't believe I've made Rice Krispie Treats before this Christmas.  I don't know why I haven't made them, but they are going to be my new go-to for a quick treat. THEY ARE SO EASY TO MAKE! Even better, you can shape them into just about anything with minimal effort.

With the afternoon off work and a niece visiting I decided this today was the ideal time for a project.  My kids were thrilled to create something and even happier to find out that it involved Rice Krispies.  A train - five cars, five children - perfect. Simple (which equaled very little work for me) but it would keep the kids entertained for a while. The kids tackled decorating their designated rail cars.  Halfway through the project my niece stopped and began writing letters in icing on the platform ... F-A-M-I-L-Y    E-X-P-R-E-S-S  ...she finished off by drawing a heart underneath.

I hadn't thought about this project being family time, just a fun thing for the kids to complete.  Many times in the hustle and bustle of daily life I forget how important it is to pause and intentionally have fun together as a family. I forget how the simplest efforts - a Rice Krispie train - show our children how important family is and how to work together in team. I'm grateful that this simple effort created a memory that will linger in the minds of my young ones!
