The most adorable applique idea on was on Pinterest recently. Someone had created cute silhouette t-shirts. I fell in love with them and had to try it out myself.
To begin, I literally placed a sheet of paper on my computer screen and traced the image that I wanted to use. At Hobby Lobby I found some simple iron-able fusible web (Steam-A-Seam2) and cut it out to match my traced image. A preheated iron, a simple T-shirt and about an hour later I had the perfect silhouette applique shirt for my 5-year old. And if my image had not been so detailed it would have gone much faster! It only took me about 10 minutes to cut out an initial and fuse it onto a hoodie I had purchased on clearance. Tomorrow I'll stitch along the edges of the silhouette and the initial so that it is even more durable. The fusible web is permanent but I want to make sure that these shirts are usable after many washes. I'll complete the extra step just in case. There are tons of different patterns available for appliques online. Make a rocket ship or puppy shirt for your son or try a silhouette or bird for your daughter. What do you think? The sky's the limit and it's simple - try it for yourself!
